Scorch
The Scorch is a desolate and dry rocky desert that lies north and
west of the Cloud Dividers. Two major caravan routes cross the
waste. The first runs more or less east to west and connects
Eastgate and the ruins of Hismir to Ironhold. The second runs
southwest to northeast between Eastgate and Hillfast.
Scorch Hazards
The usual desert hazards, heat and lack of water, plague everyone
who crosses the Scorch. But there are other threats to deal with
too.
- Kobolds live beneath the Scorch in hidden caves and sometimes
venture forth to attack weak caravans crossing the waste.
- Walking Corpses don't care about heat or dryness and are a
regular threat in the Scorch. They usually appear at night.
- Strange creatures brought to Mendia by the Outsiders and
Glaudrim still wander the desert. Some are harmless, some are
aggressive.
- Chimerics are bizarre hybrid monsters created by Outsider
breeding programs. They are amalgam creatures that incorporate
the features of many creatures. Most have multiple heads.
- Elementals. The Outsiders and Glaudrim were masters of
elemental magic. When they were destroyed, their summoned
minions were freed from their magical constraints.
- Craul are insect-like creatures with segmented bodies
covered in thick exoskeletons. Their many limbs (10 or more),
end in clusters of curved claws.
- Dire Beasts - No one knows the origins of the Dire Beasts,
natural animals imbued with ferocity, size, and strength. Some
believe they were experiments carried out by the Outsiders. Others
think the weapons used in the final battles between the Glaudrim
and the Outsiders created them.
