Working quickly, Kane sets the satchel charge timer for 30 minutes, places it behind the fuel tank, then runs toward the lift where everyone else is piled aboard. "Going up!" he calls as he grabs the lift control and hits the up button.

The lift motor whines to life, and just in time! As you rise through the air the roaring in the tunnel grows louder, smoke pouring in around the metal doors. "Look!" Elsie points to the base of the doors, where water is spraying into the hangar.

A Sub-title

After the gunfight in the hall, creeping progress through the crate-strewn warehouse, and Kane's hurried preparation of the satchel charge under the control panel of the other car, the smooth motion of the monorail is almost calming. With the others occupied, Anders takes the opportunity to examine Scars's wound. The bullet left an ugly hole in the man's thigh, though it doesn't appear it hit anything major. Without proper gear Anders resigns himself to applying a heavy dressing to the wound in an attempt to stop the bleeding. Once that's done he turns his attention to Bennett.

Though the man was awake on the dash through the halls, he's lapsed into unconsciousness now. Anders checks him over with some concern, seeing no obvious cause for the man's state. His wounds are well tended and he seems to be healing nicely, but even a sharp pinch fails to rouse him.

"Will he be OK?" asks Eisenstein, hovering nearby.

"I'm not sure. By all indications he should be awake. Did he receive any further injury during your abduction? A head injury perhaps?"

Eisenstein shrugs "He was awake when we were taken, I heard him shouting at one point. After that they blindfolded us. Perhaps they drugged him as well as I didn't hear him when we landed. He was awake and lucid at least part of the time we were being held, though we were separated most of the time. It's only luck that you found us together. Thanks for coming by the way. I thought we were never going to escape, at least not intact."

Time passes. One minute. Three. "Time for the explosion soon, brace yourselves" calls Kane, glancing at his watch. "Five, four, three, two, ONE!"

A low, distant BOOM! echoes up the tunnel and shakes the glass in the car's windows. Kane grins "Guess it worked."

"Let's not celebrate just yet. This is a long tunnel. There's still time for something to go wrong" says Truck, helping Scars sit up and lean against the wall.

"Yeah Kane, we're not out of here yet. Remember we were, or are, underwater!" says Elsie, though a faint smile plays across her face.

A few more minutes pass in silence, then a second, louder explosion reaches you. An explosion followed by a low roar. Elsie pushes the throttle in a futile attempt to squeeze out more speed. The others cluster around the windows, gazing back down the tunnel where a faint reddish glow can be seen. "That doesn't look good" whispers Anders.

His words prophetic, the whine of the monorail's motors suddenly die away to silence. The car slows, then drifts to a stop, defeated by gravity. Kane yanks the brake then studies the dials on the console. "No juice, looks like someone or something killed power to the rail."

Sonoma glances out the window into the darkness ahead "Guess we better git hoofin'."
